About Steroid Injections
At Tricity Pain Associates, our team of certified physicians has enhanced the comfort, wellness, and quality of life for countless patients who suffer from chronic pain in their muscles, joints, neck, back, and legs. While surgical procedures are needed in some cases, many patients often seek a minimally invasive solution to help improve their condition and manage their pain. As an alternative to a surgical approach, our caring team is pleased to offer the epidural steroid injections (ESI) in the treatment and management of chronic pain. Epidural steroid injections are anti-inflammatory medications administered in or around the area of the spine where the pain or inflammation is originating. ESI procedures may help provide relief from spondylosis, spinal stenosis, arthritis, a herniated disc, and other health conditions. To learn more about steroid injections, or if you have chronic pain that has not responded to over-the-counter medication or other therapies, schedule a consultation with a pain management specialist at our Round Rock or South Austin, TX practice location today.
"I found Dr Kim to be honest and to-the-point. I'm particularly analytical, and I was getting intolerant of the advice and information I was receiving about my injury. Dr. Kim went through every word of my MRI result with me so I had full understanding. He was very matter-of-fact, which is what I wanted. I get the picture he has a very good read on his patients. Fortunately, I did not have to go down the surgical path, on recommendation from Dr.Kim. And I do feel better now."- D.L. / Google / May 10, 2021
"Doctor Kim has been helping me with my back and neck pain after I was in a bad car accident. He is very good at explaining your options and what to expect from the treatments. The treatments I've had are quick and relatively painless. I highly recommend doctor Kim and his team!"- S.M. / Google / May 07, 2021
"Dr Kim and his staff are compassionate and caring on a level rarely found in this field. Rather than just simply prescribing cookie-cutter pain drugs , he and his team approach the whole individual to positively and effectively develop a plan to manage YOUR pain. He is kind and empathetic and takes the time to get to know you and really treat you- the person. I have felt so much better in the last 6 months than I have in years. Thank you for giving me my hope back that pain is treatable in the RIGHT hands. He and his team are a Blessing . Thanks again for everything you do. I highly recommend him!"- M.F. / Google / May 04, 2021
"The workers at the front desk are super nice and you're never in the waitingroom too long. It's a small office but it's very nice and super clean! I love that they stay covid-ready. Also Doctor Kim and his assistant are super nice! They joke with you and laugh with you unlike most other doctors."- A.M. / Google / Apr 30, 2021
"Dr Kim was awesome! His bedside manner was amazing, he listened, he didn’t just hear, he listened. He explained everything in detail. He reviewed old and new records of mine and images and took heed of area of interest. I’m not a simple case, but he advised me on all necessary next steps for me. Thank you Dr Kim for your honesty, compassion, and concerns regarding my situation"- R.D. / Google / Apr 22, 2021
Before beginning your ESI procedure, we will position you on your stomach and administer a local anesthetic around the treatment site to enhance your comfort. Our skilled team will then expertly insert the epidural needle and monitor its precise placement through fluoroscopy (live x-ray). Slight pressure is generally experienced as the medication enters the body. Once the procedure is complete, our team will monitor you for a while before releasing you. While you should be able to walk on your own, we recommend that you have a family member or friend drive you to and from your visit. You may notice slight discomfort or soreness surrounding the injection site; however, this can usually be relieved with a cold compress. To help evaluate the success of your ESI and determine if further treatment is needed, we suggest that you record improvement in your condition and pain level in a journal. Any follow-up ESI treatments are usually scheduled 1 – 4 weeks apart. While the longevity of treatment results varies among patients, epidural steroid injections can provide relief from chronic pain and inflammation for several weeks and years, in some cases.
